If you want to not just survive but thrive, really get to know yourself deeply.
You might want to shy away from all the imperfect stuff or the uncomfortable feelings.
I get it. I used to do the same.
I mean, it’s hard work and can feel really uncomfortable for a while there.
Why would we pour salt into the wound?
Because healing is on the other side. A deep feeling of relief, calmness and understanding. It’s grounding. It gives you a solid foundation for moving forwards confidently and with much more ease.
One way of discovering more about yourself is through personality tests.
I love the Clifton Strengths Finder®️ from Gallup.
I took the assessment a few years ago and I was amazed at how accurately I was described. The results help me understand myself more, articulate what I’m good at and that I’ve chosen the right career.
My top five strengths are:
Responsibility – I take psychological responsibility for anything I commit to and feel emotionally bound to see it through to completion.
Consistency – Balance is important to me and I feel a deep need to treat everyone the same.
Connectedness – I’m sure that things happen for a reason and that we are all connected.
Discipline – My world needs to be predictable, ordered and planned. I love structure and routines. I’m not necessarily neat and clean but I need precision.
Context – I look back because that’s where the answers lie. I look back to understand the present. I become wiser about the present and the future because I see where the seeds were sown in the past.
It’s mind-blowing how accurately it describes me and how well it suits my profession.
I often recommend this test to my clients to help them find out more about themselves.
My oldest son is taking the test before he starts applying for apprenticeships.
